Abstract
Airborne fungi play an important role in causing allergy and infection in susceptible people. This study was conducted to isolate fungi in lecture theatre of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria using the open plate method. Colonies grown on Potato dextrose agar were counted and identified by standard methods. A total of 35 colonies were Isolated. The genera of this isolated airborne fungi depending on frequency in number of colony counts were classified based on their dominance. The dominant species were Aspergillus niger (31.9%), Epidemophytin spp (17.0%), Cladosporium sp (29.8%), Penicillum spp. (21.4%). Aspergillus niger is the most prevalent with 42% colony count and Cladosporium spp less prevalent (8.6%). From the result obtained, there is need to safeguard the health of students, staffs and other workers by taking control measures that would inhibit the environmental factors that favors the growth of different fungi in the lecture theatres of the University.
Keywords: Airborne, Fungi, Colony count.
