Abstract
The study investigates the influence of citizen journalism on journalists’ compliance to professional ethics: an examination of the perception of Ogun state journalists. The study specifically determine the influence of citizen journalism practice on the compliance of Ogun State journalists to the ethics of their profession; it discover the direction of the influence of citizen journalism on the compliance of Ogun state journalists to the ethics of their profession and also find out the benefits (if any) that citizen journalism has brought on journalism practice in Ogun state. The study adopted survey research design using questionnaire as the prime instrument. A sample size of two hundred and thirty was drawn from of five hundred and fifty (550) registered journalists in Ogun State to represent the entire population. Data generated from the study were analysed using descriptive statistics such as frequency count and simple percentage. Findings from the study showed that citizen journalism has no influence on compliance of Ogun state journalists to the ethics of journalism. It was revealed that citizen journalist have eroded journalist integrity, it has also challenged the principle of objectivity and also lack balance while it was revealed that citizen journalists are not agenda-driven activist. Finally, the study confirmed that the practice of citizen journalism confers little benefits on the practice of journalism profession in Ogun state. Among other recommendations is that citizen journalism should be organised, bound by rules and codes of ethics, and those who engage in it need to understand the guidelines that must be followed to publish news
