Abstract

This research investigated the effect of perceived stress and communication on marital stability. Three research hypotheses were tested in the study. The research employed descriptive survey research using questionnaire as the prime instrument. The population for the study consists of 200 married men and women drawn from Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant difference in effect of perceived stress on marital stability due to gender. It showed that there is a significant difference in effect of perceived communication on marital stability due to gender. The findings also revealed that there is a significant difference in effect of perceived stress and communication on marital stability of married couples based on the numbers of years spent together. It was therefore recommended that marital counselling clinics in all nooks and crannies of Nigeria should be encouraged in order to help in reducing breakup in cases where stress, communication and other factors cause divorce or separation in marriage.
