Abstract

Readiness and disposition are very important for enhanced learning outcomes of all students. Students’ readiness and disposition to learn is the main tool to improve the students’ progress. This study investigated influence of students’ readiness and disposition on senior secondary school students’ academic performance in Civic Education.

            A descriptive survey research method was used for this study in order to obtain detailed factual information. This was achieved with the aid of three instruments namely Students’ Learning readiness Questionnaire, The Way I See School Inventory and Civic Education Academic Achievement Test. Two hundred (200) questionnaires were administered on the senior secondary school students.

            Results of this study showed that there was a significant influence of students’ readiness on academic performance of senior secondary school students in Civic Education; There was also a significant influence of students’ disposition on academic performance of senior secondary school students in Civic Education. Furthermore the finding also showed that students’ readiness and disposition have composite significant influence on academic performance of senior secondary school students in Civic Education.

            Based on the finding of this study, it was recommended among others that teachers should teach students study skills as well as target setting techniques in order to continue to improve students’ disposition and learning readiness.
