Abstract

 This study to examines the influences of teachers’ quality on senior secondary student academic performance in English Language. It specifically investigate the influence of teachers’ qualifications on senior secondary student academic performance in English language; It also assess the influence of teacher experience on senior secondary student academic performance in English language and it examine the influence of teacher subject mastery on senior secondary student academic performance in English language.

            Descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. A sample size of sixty (60) English language teachers in Senior Secondary in Ago-Iwoye were drawn using random sampling techniques. Primary data were generated through questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics of percentage and regression analysis was used to analyse the research questions with the aid of statistical package for social science.

            The findings of this study revealed that there was significant influence of Teacher’s Qualification on senior secondary student academic performance in English language; there was significant influence of Teacher’s Experience on senior secondary student academic performance in English language and indicated that there was significant influence of Teacher’s Subject Mastery on senior secondary student academic performance in English language.

            This study recommend that teachers should continue to increase their knowledge of subject as they stay long in teaching, this will go a long way in making their job easier. School administrator should also provide the teachers with needed resources, irrespective of their quality, this will help to erase any discrimination in teaching personnel quality.
