Abstract
This research examined self-determination, motivation and attitude towards schooling as predictors of students learning outcome. It specifically investigated self-determination as predictor of students learning outcome; examine motivation as predictor of students learning outcome; investigate attitude towards schooling as predictor of students learning outcome as well as investigated self-determination, motivation and attitude towards schooling as predictor of students learning outcome. This study anchored Self-Determination Theory and Achievement Goal Theory.
Survey research design of the ex post facto type was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised of Six Faculties (Faculty of Law, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Science, Faculty of Management Science, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Education) in main campus of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. Simple random sampling techniques was adopted to three hundred (300) students selected from the six faculties of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye. The instruments used were Self-Determination Scale (SDS), Adolescent Attitude to School Questionnaire, Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) and Self-Evaluated Outcome Scale. Data generated from the participant were analysed using descriptive statistics simple percentage for analysis of the demographic information and Linear Regression was used to analysed the hypothesis I to III while Multiple Regression Analysis was used to analysed hypothesis IV.
Findings from the study showed that all the independent variable (self-determination, motivation and attitude towards schooling) predict the dependent variable (Learning Outcome). It can be concluded that students who are determined, motivated and attitude towards are factors of learning outcomes.
Among other recommendations is that attitude towards schooling statically significantly School authorities, lecturers and parents should always find a way to enhance the motivation of students in order to increase their attitude towards schooling and in turns improve their learning outcomes.
