Abstract

Right from inception of education in Nigeria, Christian Religious Studies has been one of the core subject in all level of education. However, there have been questions on the efficacy of Christian Religious Studies programme in instilling discipline and moulding character of the learner. Therefore this study examine teachers’ preparation for teaching in the secondary school. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. Questionnaire on “Teachers preparation for Secondary School Career” was administered on sixty-three (63) Christian Religious Studies teachers drawn from Junior Secondary School in Ijebu-north Local Government Area of Ogun State. The findings of the study revealed that Christian Religious Studies teachers were adequately prepared for the teaching Christian Religious Studies. Also, the teacher’s perceived their preparedness for secondary school career positively. It was however concluded that the teachers understand the concept of Christian Religious Knowledge. Among other recommendations in this study is that in-service teachers should continue to be encouraged in order to improve their preparation for Christian Religious Studies teaching.
