Abstract

This study examined the effect of competitive strategy on organizational performance with focus on MTN Nigeria Ltd. It specifically investigated the effect of differentiation strategy on organization's performance in MTN Nigeria Ltd, investigated the effect of cost leadership strategy on organization's performance in MTN Nigeria Ltd, investigated the effect of market focus strategy on organization's performance in MTN Nigeria Ltd and investigate the effect of corporate growth strategy on organization's performance of MTN Nigeria Ltd. Descriptive survey research design was adopted by this study and the target population was 26 top management and 73 middle management staff of MTN Nigeria Ltd. Data generated through questionnaire were analysed using descriptive statistics of percentage and inferential statistics of chi-square with the aid of statistical package for social science. Findings revealed that there is significant effect of differentiation strategy on the organizational performance in MTN Nigeria Ltd. Result indicated that there is significant effect of cost leadership strategy on the organizational performance in MTN Nigeria Ltd. The study found that there is significant effect of corporate strategy on the organizational performance in MTN Nigeria Ltd and lastly the findings showed that there is significant effect of market focus leadership strategy on the organizational performance in MTN Nigeria Ltd. The study concluded that market development to a great extent enables the firms to grow through directing the products that they currently offer to new market segments. The study suggested that further studies can be conducted in other sectors. The study used primary data in the process of gathering information, another study can be conducted using the statement of account of the selected firm to evaluate their performance.
