Abstract

 

The objective of this study is to examine the effect of cashless policy on the performance of financial institution. It specifically examined the difference in the return on asset of Nigerian banks before and after the adoption of the cashless policy; determine the difference in the return on equity of Nigerian banks before and after the adoption of the cashless policy; and ascertain the difference in the earning per share of Nigerian banks before and after the adoption of the cashless policy.  This study covers the impact of cashless policy on the performance of financial institutions. The scope of the study covers banking industries listed in Nigerian Stock Exchange. Also, the study will cover the period of fourteen (14) years, 7 years before the introduction of cashless policy (2005-2011) and 7 recent year after the introduction of cashless policy (2012-2018). Results showed that the ROA (return on asset) before cashless policy period and ROA1 (return on asset) after cashless policy period has a positive relationship of 0.57%. The ROE (return on equity) before cashless policy period and ROE1 (return on equity) after cashless policy period has positive relationship 0.34%. The EPS (earning per share) before cashless policy period and EPS (earning per share) after cashless policy period has a positive relationship of 0.78%. It was concluded that there was significant impact of cashless policy on performance of financial institution in Nigeria.
