Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyse the impact of radio programmes on rural development (A study of Oru Community, Ogun State). The study was anchored on Uses and Gratification theory and Development Media theory. To achieve the objective of this study, the researcher adopts descriptive research method. The population of this study consists of radio nine thousand, seven hundred and sixteen listeners of Fresh FM that dwell within Oru community. This population is specifically chosen to ensure that data collected are accurate. The researcher employs Taro Yamane techniques to draw out the sample size of four hundred respondents that participated in the study. Research findings showed that radio programmes have influence Oru resident’s perception of government image and it have help to establish a healthy relationship between the government and the governed in interest of economic development. Also radio programmes have developed Oru community in terms of education, entertainment and health because of the rural development programme produced by Fresh FM. To this end the researcher recommended that radio programmes should continue to be directed towards rural oriented programmes.
