Abstract
The study examined motivational profile of students’ academic engagement in secondary schools. Descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised of the entire secondary students in Ijebu-north Local Government Area of Ogun State. Random sampling techniques was adopted to select three hundred students that participated in the study. The instruments used were Academic Motivation Scale and Utretch Work Engagement Scale for Students. Data generated from the participant were analysed using descriptive statistics such as simple percentage, Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient and Multiple regression. Finding from the study showed that all the five component of motivational profile (Intrinsic, External, Identified, Introjected, Amotivation) statistically significantly influence academic engagement. It was also shown that there was significant relationship among motivation profiles and students academic engagement. Among other recommendations is that parents and guardians should inculcate the desire to achieve early in the life of their children by providing adequately for their needs, as well as motivating them to achieve their goals.
