Abstract
In spite of the current state of the job market, the industry is experiencing a growing trend in voluntary turnover, a situation where a worker resigns and not necessarily to take up a more lucrative or conducive employment elsewhere. It is worth to know that losing a valuable employee is likely to affect the long term health and success of the banking firm. This study investigates organizational politics and turnovers intention in banking sector using Guarantee Trust Bank as a case study. Two hypotheses were raised in the study. The study was anchored on organizational support theory. Descriptive survey research design was adopted using questionnaire as the prime instrument to gather information from respondents drawn from Guarantee Trust Bank in Ijebu axis. Data collected were analysed with SPSS Version 20 using simple percentage and frequency count to analysed the demographic data (section A) while the bivariate correlation and linear regression analysis to test the supposed moderating effects of the variables. The study reveals that there is no statistical significant effect of organizational politics on employee performance in the banking sector (-1.08<0.05). It shows that there is statistical significant effect of organizational politics on employee turnover intention in the banking sector (0.445>0.05). It concludes that organizational politics can affect employee turnover in the banking sector. However, it recommends that banking sector management should try as much as possible to improve the working environment and benefits of their workers as this will reduce their intent to leave even at the point of not been fair to them.
