Abstract

This study investigated organizational trust and organizational citizenship behavior among employee of Nigerian Bottling Company, Ikeja Plant. It specifically examined the impact of organizational trust on altruism among employees of Nigerian Bottling Company, Ikeja Plant, examined the impact of organizational trust on conscientiousness among employees of Nigerian Bottling Company, Ikeja Plant and examined the impact of organizational trust on sportmanship among employees of Nigerian Bottling Company, Ikeja Plant. the study used questionnaire to generate data used for the study. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The items on the questionnaire were analysed using simple percentage and frequency count while the hypotheses were tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis. Result from the study showed that organizational trust has a significant impact on organizational citizenship. Findings also showed that the more employees trust the competences of their colleague, trust their honesty and believe in their genuine concern for others, the more the employees will be relaxed in carrying out their duties which will metamorphose into a satisfactory work experience. Therefore the study concluded that there is a significant relationship between organizational citizenship behavior and organizational trust among the employee of Nigerian Bottling Company, Ikeja Plant. Based on the findings the study recommended that organizations should sensitize employees to exhibit courteous, conscientious and sportsmanship behaviors by instituting relevant policies, trainings and group discussions. This would create the opportunity for employees to socialize, interact and acquire interpersonal skills at the workplace as well as learn to collaborate with colleagues as regards role expectations
