Abstract
This study investigated the investigate teacher’s and student’s perception of factors enhancing occupational health and safety practices in technology education workshop. It specifically examined if teachers and students knowledge of occupational health and safety will enhance occupational health and safety practices in technology education workshop; investigated teachers and students attitude to occupational health and safety as factor that enhances occupational health and safety practices in technology education workshop and determined if availability of health and safety equipment will enhance occupational health and safety practices in technology education workshop.
Descriptive survey research design was adopted by this study and the target population was forty (40) lecturers and one hundred (100) students of Federal College of Education Akoka and Government Technical College Ikotun, both in Lagos State were used as sample. Data were generated through questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics of percentage with the aid of statistical package for social science.
The findings of this study revealed that teachers and students have enough knowledge of occupational health and safety and this enhances the practices in workshop; it was discovered that teachers perceived attitude to occupational health and safety will enhance it practices but students responses differs to that of the teachers; Also, this study revealed that both teachers and students perceived availability of occupational health and safety equipment will enhance the practices of occupational health and safety in workshop. It was concluded that teachers and students have positive perception regarding knowledge of occupational health and safety, attitude to occupational health and safety, and availability of occupational health and safety equipment and these enhances the practices of occupational health and safety in workshop.
Among other recommendation is that management of technical colleges should not relent in providing protective equipment and the students should continue to be given periodic training in order for them to continue to remember the important of occupational health and safety.
