Abstract
Basic Science and Technology is meant to provide learning experience through which students acquire scientific literacy and students are expected to develop the necessary scientific knowledge and understanding, process skills, values and attitudes, for their personal development. In order to know if this students are meeting the expectation, this study therefore investigated students’ achievement deterrence in Basic Science and Technology. Eighty students from four selected secondary schools in Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State were chosen for this study. The researcher used a well-constructed questionnaire which sought after the adequacy and effectiveness of Basic Science and Technology, validity of Basic science and Technology Curriculum, arrangement of content and principle of Basic Science and Technology, students’ attitude towards Basic Science and Technology. The descriptive research design was used in the study. Four research questions were raised and analysed using mean score and standard deviation at .05 alpha level of significance. All the research question were answered positively. The results of the findings showed that the curriculum presently used in Universal Basic Education for Basic Science and Technology is adequate and effective, it revealed that the design of the Universal Basic Education for Basic Science Education programme is achieving what it is meant to achieve, it also showed that the arrangement of concepts and principles of Basic Science and technology is proper, it also revealed that the students had positive attitude towards learning of Basic Science and Technology.
