Abstract
This study investigated the effects of senior secondary school students’ use of demonstration kits on their achievement in Computer Studies in Ijebu-North local government area of Ogun State, Nigeria. The study utilized a quasi-experimental design of pre-test and post-test control group of 2x2 factorial matrix. Data was obtained from two intact classes in two purposively selected secondary schools in Ijebu-North. The research instruments - Computer studies Achievement Test (CSAT) was used in the study to measure the academic achievement of the students. The reliability of the CSAT was determined using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient formula and 0.75 was obtained. Descriptive statistics was used to analyse the demographic variables of the respondents while Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the null hypotheses. Findings from the study revealed that there was a significant difference in the achievement of students who learned computer studies using demonstration kit and those who learned it without using demonstration kit since F(1, 67) = 44.133, p < 0.05. However, no significant difference in the achievement of male and female students because F(1, 67) = .648, (p=0.426 > 0.05). Based on the findings, it was recommended that computer studies teachers should consider exposing their students to the use of demonstration kits to enhance meaningful learning of computer concepts.
