Abstract
Escherichia coli is a normal inhabitant of the intestines of most animals, including humans. The diseases caused by a particular strain of Escherichia coli depends on distribution and expression of virulence determinant such as biofilm formation. Ear phones are also a source of bacterial diseases by forming microbial biofilm in ear and may easily be a source of vector of potential pathogens. Therefore, this study investigated Escherichia coli from ear swabs of University students for in vitro biofilm production. Thirty sample of ear swabs was collected from students and a total of seventeen isolates belonging to three genus were isolated in the thirty samples. However, Escherichia coli was not isolated from all the samples collected. The bacteria were identified morphologically and Biochemically. The identified bacterial were Proteus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumonaiae with 35.3%, 47.1% and 17.6% respectively. It was however, recommended that students should properly clean their ears and if possible, it should be everyday cleaning.
