This study examined the role of democratic governance as predictor for reduction of unemployment among the youth in Atiba Loal Government Area, Oyo State. The research adopted a survey research design. The total population for the study comprised of one hundred and sixty-eight thousand two hundred and forty-six (168,246) at the 2006 census. The youth consist of 65% of the entire population, according to the 2006 census and the instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. Census sampling techniques was adopted to One hundred and Forty (140) youth.  The data generated were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency count, simple percentage, t-test and Analysis of Variance.

Findings from the study showed that students there was significant relationship between democratic governance and unemployment among youth; there was significant difference in the perception of youth on democratic governance due to gender. Also the study revealed that there was significant difference in the perception of youth on democratic governance due to age. This implies that periods of high unemployment and joblessness could hinder the development of democracy, or threaten its existence.

  Among other recommended is that government at all levels should put in place and sustain programmes and policies geared towards reduction of poverty and unemployment level via massive youth employment and women empowerment agendas such that both problems can be reduced if not completely removed from our society.
