Abstract

To date, current trends in youth sport programs such as football academies are moving towards elitism, early selection and early specialization. As a result, these sport programs may not provide and facilitate optimal environment for youths’ overall well-being and development. Therefore this study was designed to examine students’ perception of the social support and well being offered by Pepsi Football Academy. Two research hypotheses were tested in the study in order to know the difference in perceive social support and wellbeing of younger and older students as well as male and female students. The research employed descriptive survey research using questionnaire as the prime instrument to collect data from the students. The population for the study consists of eighty-two academy students. The findings of the study revealed that there is significant difference in the perceived social support and wellbeing of younger students and older students. It also showed that there is significant difference in the perceived social support and wellbeing of male and female students. Among the recommendation of the study is that academy management should regularly carryout perception tests for students to identify negative traits that needs attention.
