This study was conducted to investigate the roles of governmental agencies in community development in Nigeria with focus on Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area, Ogun State. It specifically investigate the role of government agencies policies on social and economic development; examine the factors that influence the process of community development; and t explore the problems and consequence of failure of community development programme on the nation.

            Descriptive Survey design was adopted using questionnaire as the prime instrument for data collection from two hundred residents in Ijebu-Ode Government Area of Ogun State. Data generated were analysed with the aid of descriptive statistics such frequency count and simple percentage on Statistical Package for Social Science.

            Findings of the study revealed that governmental agencies have a huge impact of the community development in Nigeria, especially in Ijebu-ode Local Government Area. However, there is still more to do in terms of infrastructure. It was concluded that government agencies policies have helped to improved social and economic development. But the study revealed that the lapses of government agencies have increased unemployed which have generated into criminality among youth.

            Among other recommendations is that government agencies should ensure steady improved economic growth and developments through the provision of rural infrastructure, other basic necessity of life and good governance to enable the masses cope with the problem of poverty and thus perform their civic obligation.
